Hotel totaly destroyed by fire.
Where was the compartmentation? Sounds like wedged open doors? At least the Emergency Fire Action Plan seemed to work. Everyone out safely. I wonder if that would be the case if the fire was during the night when guests were sleeping?

New Minister for Fire Related matters. Roseanna Cunningham.
Firstly I would like to thank Fergus Ewing for his time and efforts whilst Minister responsible for Fire.
Secondly, I would like to welcome Roseanna Cunningham to the post. I hope Roseanna will find time to look at the Enforcing Authorities attitude and blind observance to The Practical Guidance notes and using the Technical Annexes as minimum standards rather than for Guidance and comparison.
I also hope she can send copies of Dictionaries to all Local Authority Fire safety Officers, so they can understand the following terms:
Reasonable and practical
Where the benifits outweigh the costs
See Edwards V's NCB (1949) 1 All ER 743
If clarification is required, Roseanna, give me a call.

3rd part accreditation requirement. About time.
BAFE's proposal for 3rd part acreditation Certification is out for consultation. About time there was an agreement between all interested parties re the assurance of competency based skills in the Fire Safety Consultancy field. The onus is on the Organization rather than the individual carrying out the Assessment. Not sure if this is wholly satisfactory.
The Fire Risk Assessments will be signed off by the "Duty Holder" of The Organization working for the "Duty Holder" as described in the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. Confused?
I will be raising this issue and others in my response to the Consultation.

Do you think there should have been a culpable homicide charge for this Company?

Rain to give respite to Scottish Firefighters?
Hopefully the rain forecast for the next few days will help hard pressed firefighters in their battle against wild fires in the Country.
